Find Out the NDIS Pay Rates

As a registered NDIS provider, you will be able to access billions of dollars of government funds that have been allocated to the NDIS to ensure the ongoing safety and care for those in Australia living with a disability.

The NDIS have a set pricing guide (known as NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, but previously, the NDIS Price Guide) to outline the amount of funds they will pay an individual or a business for the services they have provided to an NDIS participant.

The NDIS price guide will outline the specific rates based on the service category provided, the qualification of the individual providing care and whether or not there is any shift work penalties. The NDIS also has increased pay rates for those working in a rural/regional setting.

Why does the NDIS have price limits?

The NDIS price guide and pay rates are put in place to ensure that NDIS participants receive value for money for the services they purchase. It is designed to prevent providers in less competitive markets from charging unreasonable fees. It helps to keep a fair playing field for both providers and participants. The NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits are changed periodically as per the discretion of the NDIA.

Why does the NDIS change the pay rates?

The NDIS will review its pay limits at least annually to ensure that pay rates remain fair and reasonable. The prices are adjusted to account for changes to the Consumer Price Index or cost of living. The NDIS will often review the pay rates more frequently if there are any economic changes, such as changes caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

You can find the full price break down of the 2022/2023 price arrangements on the NDIS Website.

To become a sole trader Registered NDIS Provider, your first step is to apply for a Sole Trader/Individual ABN with the Australian Business Register. There is a fee associated with ABN registration. Once your ABN is registered with you should start to picture your business goals and service delivey target market.
Avaana’s expert business consultants can help you work through this initial business setup, and tailor your business plans and financial projections to suit your marketing strategies and service delivery areas.

After planning out your business goals, you next need to create a suite of policy and procedural documentation to suit your NDIS business including governance delegations, organisational policies.
Avaana’s NDIS Applicaiton Managers consult directly with you to ensure your suite is tailored and branded for your unique business.

Once your documentation is prepared, you then lodge your Application for NDIS Provider Registration with the NDIS Commission, and undergo auditing by an NDIS Quality Approved Auditor. During audit, your prepared document suite and understanding of your Application and service delivery plans will be reviewed by an Auditor. During Auditing, you may need to make amendments to your suite to meet the indicators as the Auditor interprets them for your services; and during Assessment you may receive Requests for Further Information from the Commission, which you will have to respond to within a timeframe if received.
Avaana’s NDIS Application Managers work with you to prepare for and respond to outcomes of these formal processes.

Once approved by the Commission, you will receive an NDIS Certificate of Registration for your Provider Business, and you can start working as an officially Registered NDIS Provider!

Registration fees vary greatly depending on the services you are planning to offer, whether you are engaging a consultant, and whether you are already servicing NDIS Participants as an Unregistered Provider. While there is no direct application fee payable to the Commission for NDIS Provider Registration; consultants will usually charge $2500-$6000 for policy drafting and registration consultancy services, and auditors will charge an additional $2000-$10,000 for auditing, again depending on service delivery status. A Provisional Core Module Provider Applicant can expect approximately $6000 in consultancy and auditing fees.

Ongoing costs will include cyclical auditing as required to maintain registration (typically every 18 months), any additional consultancy or business advisory fees for additional services delivered following Registration, and of course standard ongoing business costs including insurances.

While there is no fee payable for application; GST is payable on any auditing and consultancy services utilised during the Application process.

Additional costs typically include consultancy costs for drafting additional policy and procedure documentation for the expanded service delivery areas, and any audit assistance provided. Auditors will also charge an additional auditing fee for your “Variation” of your NDIS Provider Registration. Variation audit fees are not as expensive as mandatory cyclical audits, as they are only reviewing a select area of the practice standards relevant to the expanded service delivery of the Registered Provider.

Unfortunately fees for services delivered by consultants and auditors are not refundable based upon withdrawn or unsuccessful Applications, particularly where the outcome of the Application was related to provider suitability rather than consultancy or auditing services utilised throughout the Application process.
